Recreation & Leisure

The Springdale Public Library is located at Indian River High School and shares space with the Indian River High School Library. The library also functions as a Public Internet Access Centre. Summer hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2:00pm 5:00pm and 6:30pm – 9:00pm. Saturday hours are 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Sunday, Monday & Friday closed.

Silver Gliders Skating Club
The Silver Gliders Skating Club offers practices and instruction for children and young adults in the art of figure skating during the winter season. Silver Gliders usually starts its first training segment in first or second week of November of the appropriate year (it’s usually posted in the paper). There are usually about 60 – 80 members per season who become members of Silver Gliders.

Silver Gliders executive is usually elected in late September, early October. Anyone interested in joining the club this year, or if you would just like extra information, please feel free to call Paula Strowbridge at 673 – 3487.

Public Skating

Adult Fitness Skate: Mondays and Fridays 12:00 – 1:00 pm

Preschool Skate: Mondays and Fridays 1:30-2:30 pm

General Skate : Friday 7:30 – 8:30 pm

Shiney Hockey : Friday 2:00 – 3:00pm

Family Skate : Saturday 6:00 – 7:00 pm
During the winter, Springdale Stadium often holds a seasonal schedule which allows for scheduled public skating on it’s indoor hockey rink. Public skating sessions usually run for an hour at a time after 5 pm. Definite times for sessions is procured by the Springdale recreational department a few weeks before hockey season starts. Springdale Curling
Springdale has always been a town known for it’s curling teams and events. Regular seasons are often a large part of a sportsman’s life here in Springdale. We have a duo-curling rink here in town, located in the Springdale Stadium. The facility hosts a number of curling events, and sports a bar, as well as it’s very own Springdale Curling Club. Hockey
Springdale also have a prominent hockey circuit as well. Three leagues operate during the regular hockey season, Minor Hockey, a local men’s league, and a high school team. Minor hockey has been operating in Springdale for quite a few years now an has produced some very valuable players. One such player is Jared Saunders. During his years at Indian River High, Jared was spotted by hockey scouts at various games in which he played defense and he was drafted for the Quebec major-junior league, one step closer to the NHL. The Ole Warriors and the Springdale Braves are the local men’s hockey team that represent Springdale across Newfoundland. Anyone interested in playing in the men’s league please call Jamie Tizzard at 673 – 4689 or TJ Johanson at 668-1328.

The Indian River Wildcats are our local high school’s senior hockey team.

Cross-Country Ski Trail
Indian River Cross-Country Ski Trail is located 12kms north of Springdale. A variety of loops and trails meet the needs of novice, intermediate and experience skiers. You’ss find everything from a leisurely loop to a 10km trek The trail offers groomed and single track set trails, ski lodge and warm-up hut.

Snowmobile Trail
Green Bay Snowmobile Association offers some of the most scenic trails around with over 330kms of excellent riding. Whether you are going out with your family or friends, you can stop in one of our heated shelters along the way.

Swimming Pool
The Springdale swimming pool is an outdoor facility which offers a complete aquatic program including youth and adult lessons, recreational swimming and a variety of special events throughout the summer. The pool is home to the Bluefins Swim Club which attracts upward of 100 young swimmers annually.

Walking Trail
The Town of Springdale has recently constructed a 5.6km walking trail that follows the beautiful Indian River and leads to the Springdale wetlands. During your walk in this natural setting, birds, animals, and ducks can be seen on a regular basis. It is something that the whole family can enjoy.

The town of also offers various outdoor activities during the summer months for children and adults. The facilities include a softball field, soccer pitch, two tennis courts and two playgrounds.

Playground Facilities
The Town of Springdale operates two playgrounds, the Lion Ford Rolfe Memorial Playground on Recreation Road and the Kinsmen Kevin Rideout Memorial Playground along Main Street in the town’s East End. The playgrounds contain a variety equipment intended to provide fun and safe activity for young children.
